It’s Samhain!  October 2012 is here and what a year it has been!  This is definitely the “high time” if you are Pagan and/or a Witch where contacting “ghosts” is quite the norm.  As most of us know, Samhain/Halloween is the time where the veil between the worlds (our world and the otherworld) is at its thinnest and easiest to cross through to reach, contact and visit with our ancestors and/or anybody else that we choose that has passed from this physical plane.

Because of this, I thought it would be a great idea to give you a quick little spell that you can do BEFORE Samhain eve to clear your home from any negative energies and/or entities that you do not want roaming about, prior to your performing your Samhain ritual so that the canvas is cleared so-to-speak and you have a clean slate in which to invite the guest or guests of your choosing.

Herbal medicine is arguably the world’s oldest science. Every culture in the world steeps herbs in water for  refreshing and medicinal drinks.

Herbal medicine isn’t as complex as it seems at first. In fact, it can be quite simple. Let’s start with making a simple cup of tea. The purpose in making an herbal tea is to extract the medicinal values from the herb into a cup of water. Pick one or two plants that you are familiar with to start. My favorite and one that is in my yard so easily accessible to me is gardenia.

Herb Magick is a common favorite among many different paths. It is used in Wicca, Voodoo, Kitchen Witchery, Pagan rites, and many many more. Since the beginning of human kind, herbs and plants have been known for their healing abilities, but also for their metaphysical qualities. Too often, people are led to believe that in order to perform herb or plant magick, the herbs in questions must be expensive, exotic, rare or difficult to obtain. Really, it is quite the opposite. The herbs and plants that grow closest to home might just be the most powerful choice for that protection sachet or purification brew. After all, you can fill them with intent while you harvest them, they grow locally, and because they are indiginous to your area, their energies are naturally acclimated positively to the surroundings and to you.

Here is a brief list of plants, trees, herbs and flowers, along with their metaphysical properties, which I’ve experimented with in the past. All of them are easy to find and may be growing in your back yard, your garden, or local park. I’ve obtained the information over the years through books, online research and – the best teacher – personal practice.
