The Easiest Way to Learn Tarot—EVER…Really?

Posted by helenslight     Category: Book Reviews, Divination

I have been reading tarot cards for over 20 years.  I am the kind of person that studies the books and then does the work with the tool.  Tarot, for me, is a tool that allows me to access other parts of my psychic abilities.  It is a jumping off point.  So, needless to say I have read many books.  In the last years I have become more selective in what I read.  Then I saw a strange titled book and one that usually I would have passed up.  I saw it on the internet and decided to try it out.  The book was The Easiest Way to Learn Tarot—EVER by Dusty White.  I wondered what this book could hold for me as it claimed to be the easiest way to learn tarot—EVER.  “Ever” is a long time.  I got the book through the mail…off Amazon and started casually reading.

The book is divided up into 7 sections.  Some of these sections include:  The Fastest Way to Know Your Cards, Spreads, Minor Arcana, Major Arcana, and Okay, So What Do I do Now?.

First off I want to say that I was really impressed with how Dusty emphasized getting to know your cards.  This was far before learning the textbook meanings.  He has 2 and 3 card exercises to help the student familiarize themselves with the cards.  Then he even has some “mildly” advanced exercises for the students that understand.  I like how he encourages the student to trust their intuition about what a card means…to REALLY look at the cards and see with their own eyes and not the author’s.

The spread section with its traditional Celtic Cross Spread gives very valuable spreads.  Dusty makes it fun for the student to learn the spreads.  He has a one card spread, two card spread, and multiple card spread.  There’s also a yes/no spread.  The spread section is very complete.  There is even a “mildly” advanced spread category.  I like that he does not give so much information that it overwhelms students yet does not dumb it down.

Now we get to the traditional meanings of the cards.  I have to say that I found out things that I had never known.  I received new information which I did not expect.  Like I said I have many books.  I found out that the Ace of Swords reversed is what many psychics see as the true death card.  I never knew that!  Did you ?

There is the section of “Okay, so what do I do now?”  He tells his students to keep their decks handy…to basically make them a part of the student.  Then he gives students a plan for 30 day and 60 – 90 days.  He does not just leave his students with nothing to do to further their education.  He also gives a link to further advance there education. This is a site to get a lot of information.  It connects the student with other students and professionals in the tarot community.

Finally there is an appendix that has a FAQ.  This I found to be very helpful.  I think the site and the FAQ helps students feel less alone with all this new knowledge.  Students find a place to practice their skills.

I would highly recommend The Easiest Way to Learn Tarot—EVER.  It’s written in very understandable language without silly rhymes or complex meanings.  It’s obvious that Dusty is a skilled reader and writer.  I have since become one of his students and I am learning new things all the time.  I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.

This book has some interesting learning tools I’m going to try with my Tarot class. I especially liked the “This happens to me/this happens to you” exercise. I can see how his methods would really help the beginning readers.

I am sorry I missed this post, but glad I caught it now. I am not a ‘Tarot’ person, as they often just look like cards with pretty pictures to me…but this sounds like a book I could actually use to familiarize myself at my own pace. Thanks!

    Krystal,
I am so glad you found it helpful and will possibly use the book. Dusty makes it very understandable.

For everyone, Dusty has a web site where you can hear about classes he offers and where you can hear podcasts. I tried to put it in the article but, I don’t think it came through. Here is the link: http://easytarotlessons.com/ It is a great site for beginners and advanced alike. I hope it is okay that I posted the link.
